Happy New Year!

Hola mi gente and welcome back to Esquina Latina! I hope you had a fabulous Christmas and Santa was as good to you as he was to me. Santa and I have a longstanding agreement…if I leave him empanadas (forget the cookies), he doesn’t hold my “naughty” against me. The holiday season is coming to an end, but we still have to look forward to our next and final celebration of 2017! Believe it or not, December 31 is my birthday, so I have double the reason to celebrate on New Year’s Eve. The downside is my birthday can’t compete with a major holiday, and it usually gets lost in all the hustle and bustle, but I always have the next day off, so that’s the upside. I do make a point to acknowledge myself on my holiday birthday every year by buying a gift from me to me of course. I always get the greatest gifts for myself! ☺

This year I plan to go out instead of staying in and hosting my own Birthday/New Year’s Eve celebration. A group of those closest to me are going to dinner and then who knows where the night will take us. I never know what will happen with this crowd, but I can’t wait to find out. Typically, I host a “pachanga” at my house and we have our usual food staples or, if I’m lucky, I order some takeout. That’s basically the only day I can get away with hosting and placing an order for food instead of cooking and won’t get judged. I do have to remind mi gente that it’s MY Birthday and maybe I don’t want to cook? Glad to be going out this year, but I will miss seeing my cousin’s wife walk around the neighborhood with her suitcases. If you walk around the neighborhood on NYE with suitcases, it means you will travel the following year. It seems to work for her family…they take amazing trips! Maybe you should try it this year! The neighbors just think the poor girl is lost and I just deny knowing her! I don’t have to miss out on wearing lucky colored underwear, red is supposed to bring you good luck in love. So, I plan to wear RED this year! Too much information you say, but who doesn’t want love? I will also bring a bushel of grapes to dinner. We absolutely have to eat 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight. I typically soak mine in my champagne and they are yummy! Each grape is for good luck every month of the upcoming year. I have to bring enough for everyone so we all have good luck next year!

Whether you’re celebrating at home dancing the night away with your familia, watching the ball drop at Times Square, or out on the town, don’t forget to look “red carpet” ready. Since this year I start the countdown to 50 and AARP will be tracking me down before I know it, I plan to look as fabulous as I can. Maybe I will straighten the hair with my GoldPro Flat Iron or maybe go wavy with my GoldPro Digital Styling Wand. First I have to figure out the ensemble, then the hair, but I like to have options as I’m sure you do to too! Please have fun, please look fabulous, but most importantly please be safe!

Cheers to you all! 2017 has been fun, but my gut tells me that 2018 is going to be amazing! Happy New Year to you all and Happy Birthday to me!!!!

Hasta la proxima!
